For several years, I worked in the University of Tennessee's Department of Computer Science. I worked for the interim department head, Dr. Micheal Berry who was an expert in data and text mining. I assisted Dr. Berry in putting together a book based on his lecture notes (including writing some of the non-technical material).

Understanding Search Engines: Mathematical Modeling and Text Retrieval

"Written in an informal style, the book is easy to read and is a good introduction on how search engine operate." -- Mathematics Today

Co-authored with University of Tennessee professor  Dr. Michael W. Berry, Understanding Search Engines was published by the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) in 1999. A new edition of the book was published in 2005.
